In this paper, in order to study the problem of exploring the source of living studies and
comprehensive learning in the pre-war and postwar social studies educational history, I considered,
as a case example, Nagaoka Fumio's theory and practice in elementary school attached Nara Girls’
Higher Normal School.
After the war, this school established the “Nara Plan”. Otai Shigematsu serving as the executive
officer. He was involved in the establishment of a social studies at the Ministry of Education with
Kaoru Ueda, and they created the “Course of Study in Social Studies (I)”. then, Shigematsu was
assigned in this School, Nagaoka practiced three learnings, “Shigoto”, “Keiko”, and “Nakayoshi”
created from the “Nara Plan”.
The analysis is as follows. Firstly, in the children's developmental stage, they were trying to
learn the view of humanity and society appropriate for them through learning “Shigoto”. Secondly,
Nagaoka refined the teaching materials and provided it to the students in order to make the
children finding the urgent problem. Thirdly, they did not end what the children learned through
learning, leading to the next learning, beyond the grade and subjects, they had been developed into
rooted their lives.
