This study is to examine problem drinker issues and its meaning that were experienced by social workers in field. The research question is as follows: ‘What is the meaning of social workers’ experience on problem drinker issues?’. Nine of social workers who have 5 to 17 years of working experience in community welfare field in the east of Gagwon-do took part in this study. The data was collected from October, 2015 to May, 2016. Colaizzi’s phenomenological method were used for analysis in order to explore the common feature amongst the participants. According to the results of this study, 7 of categories, 19 of theme clusters, and 66 of meaning units. The categories are extracted as follows: ‘alcohol issues that haven’t been paid enough attention’, ‘Alcohol issues that emerged in field’, ‘People who have been broken by alcohol problem’, ‘Intervention that were not sensitive to problem drinkers’, ‘Issues of problem drinkers which is unavoidable’, and ’Facing issues of problem drinkers and challenging myself’. In the end, the meaning of participants’ experiences were identified as ‘Being lost then gaining knowledge’through failure, limitation, and facing experience when intervening to issues of problem drinkers. The results of this study do not generalize the social workers experience with the issues of problem drinkers, however, there are implications in social work field based on these results.
