From the institutional perspective, this study examines whether the law school system that was introduced in 2009 has been running in compliance with the inaugural objectives. To achieve this goal, a panel consisting of five law school professors and five lawyer alumni analyzed the current status of law school management, focusing on how law schools have been responding to changes in the environment. The results are summarized as follows: First, of the various institutional environments influencing law school management, those confirmed to be critical were the quota-controlling bar examination system, regulations related to the foundation of the law school and management evaluations, the remuneration trend of legal personnel, lawyer selection practice, and the rankings among law schools. Second, such institutional environments have compelled law schools to adopt substantial self-imposed constraints associated with curriculum management. Third, the uncertainty of a safe environment for the continuation of the current law school system was found to be a barrier for achieving the inaugural objectives of the law school system, and for furthering specialization-related development. Some policy implications are suggested based on the above findings.
