Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between variables and influenced factors for developing
intervention program to promote a mental health of children. Methods: The data were collected from 208 elementary
school students participating Taekwondo training in S city, from October 1st to 20th, 2015. Finally, 192 copies were used
for analysis. Data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS WIN 18.0
program. Results: First, in the differences of self-esteem, social attitude and mental health according to the general
characteristics, there was a significant difference in training career for self-esteem. Second, in correlation, the self-esteem
was related to social attitude and mental health. Also, social attitude was related to mental health. Finally, the multiple regression
analysis revealed that the social attitude was a significant factor for mental health. Conclusion: We suggest that
mental health promotion program including Taekwondo training is needed to approach from lower grades in elementary
school through improving self-esteem and social attitude.
