The research on museum visitors and program developers is often carried out with the data of survey,
observation and interview. The aim of this paper is to increase understandings on the use of qualitative
interview and in-depth interview that are adopted in the qualitative research for museum study, referred
with several related articles. Those reviewed articles have shown that the in-depth interviews were taken
for 1-2 hours once or twice per person. On the other hand, three research cases that used interviews
intensively in the area of phenomenological research. qualitative case study and life history tend to
provide rich descriptions for the person who experienced with museum related activities based on social
contexts. This paper, at the end, suggests the importance of building intimate relationships with
participants and using in-depth interview for inquiring how the museum experiences are expanded and
converted into personal learning.
