Museums made an early start in providing multicultural education to respond to the social changes of
active population movements around the globe and increasing individuals with various cultural
backgrounds. Multicultural education, however, took an assimilation-based approach to introduce the
Korean culture to minority groups. There was thus a need raised for education on cultural diversity to
improve the perceptions of the majority with a special emphasis on cultural diversity education for
children to live in a multicultural society. Targeting children and their families, children’s museums are
making efforts to develop exhibition and educational programs to help children grow into adults that will
understand and respect various values.
This study set out to examine the organization and utilization case of “ISIMJEONSIM(Reading Each
Other’s Minds),” educational aids developed by Gyeonggi Children’s Museum to spread the perception
of cultural diversity. And It proposed development for educating cultural diversity education for children.
It also could be reference for developing cultural diversity education at children’s museum in the future.
