This study examined intention to exercise and used as a mediator between exercise identity and exercise behaviors, and how action control may moderated the relationship between exercise intention and exercise behaviors. A sample of 448 university students (161 males, 287 females) aged 19-24 years old completed measures of intention to exercise, exercise identity as a self-regulatory strategy, action control, and exercise behavior in their leasure time. Data were analyzed using moderated mediation regression. The results of this syudy were follows as: Exercise intention was found to mediate between exercise identity and exercise behaviors among pre-service teachers. This mediation was moderated by the levels of action control. In conclusion, participants' exercise identity was positively associated with their exercise intention fostering exercise behaviors. Especially, persons with high levels of action control translated intention to exercise into exercise behaviors via exercise identity.
