This study is a comparison of public art based on the sculpture 'Pinocchio', which is installed in the
Dongseo University Centum campus, Busan, Korea.
The sculpture 'Pinocchio,' a character from Disney’s animation, is a utilization of public art to provide
culture and composure to the desolate city atmosphere filled with high rise buildings.
The result of this study shows that 'Pinocchio,' has deviated from conventional public art and broadened
the meaning of cultural contents by bringing out the characteristics of fairy tale characters and blending
technology into the artwork. This thesis examines the implicit and aesthetic characteristics of the public art
'Pinocchio' from the people’s perspective and suggests the interactivity of the public art so that it can
expand its possibilities as a content.
