The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence that the income of visitors of social welfare
centers has on cultural activity participation and use of cultural facilities. For this study, a survey was
conducted on 400 male and female visitors of social welfare centers in Seoul from May 5 to November 5,
2014. The analysis was made using the SPSS program to conduct the frequency analysis, Caystrus
conditioning test, one-way analysis of variance, Scheffes multiple range test, etc., and was verified with a
significance level of 5%. The research results showed that, first, the characteristics of participation in
cultural activities were relevant to a household’s monthly income. Second, the level of indirect cultural
activity participation revealed to be low the lower the household’s monthly income. Third, the desire to use
indirect cultural activity was low the lower the household’s monthly income. These results show that the
level of participation in cultural activities varies depending on the level of household’s income, the lower
the income, the lower the participation and desire. The implications of this study are expected to become
basic data for the improvement of the level of participation in cultural activities and cultural facilities
depending on a household’s monthly income.
