본 연구는 수화통역사의 수화통역 경험을 통해 나타나는 다양한 문제와 어려움 을 이해함으로써 수화통역사의 역할과 기능의 바람직한 방향을 제시하고 하였다. 이를 위해 2016년 11월부터 12월까지 두 달여 동안 10년 이상의 수화통역 경험 을 한 수화통역사 5명을 심층인터뷰 하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 분석된 자 료는 객관적 해석학을 통해 7개의 의미구조를 파악하고 결과를 도출하였다. 분석 결과는 첫째, 수화통역으로의 길 찾기 : 호기심에서 인생의 터닝 포인트로, 둘째, 수화의 체화(體化) : 몸짓에서 언어로 의미변화, 셋째, 수화, 같지만 다른 표현의 길 : 언어에서 문화로까지, 넷째, 서비스개입 : 공(公)과 사(私)의 갈림길에서의 갈등, 다섯째, 통역기능인과 복지전문가 사이에서의 역할 혼란, 여섯째, 윤리적 딜레마 : 개인정보 노출과 비밀보장의 갈등, 마지막으로 ,수화통역사의 전문성 : 봉사로부터 전문직으로의 기대 등이 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 다음과 같이 제언을 하 였다. 첫째, 수화통역사의 실천적 행동지침이 규정되어야 한다. 둘째, 각 수화통역 센터에 농인들의 통역서비스에서 드러난 욕구들을 관리할 수 있는 사례관리자를 배치하는 것이 필요할 것으로 본다. 셋째, 수화통역사의 윤리적 갈등을 해결하기 위한 구체적 윤리강령의 제정이 요구된다. 넷째, 전문성 확보를 위한 체계적 개입, 즉 영역별 전문성확보를 위한 교육과정 개설과 전문가와의 1:1 수퍼비전과 같은 피드백 등을 통한 제도적 지원이 이루어져야 한다. 마지막으로, 농인과 수화통역 사의 역할기대의 차이를 극복하기 위한 직업적 역할정립이 필요하다.
This study is aimed to show that what they face in the practical context and how they cope with problems and difficulties through sign language interpreter’s experience. So we wanted to present desirable directions about sing language interpreters’role. For this, 5 sign language interpreters who have experienced as a professional for more than 10 years in the practical field were interviewed and their interpreting experience, difficulties and problems of their job implementation analyzed by objective hermeneutics method. The results are as follows: First, they viewed their sign language experience as turning point in their life. Second, sign language’meaning has changed from gesture to language for sign language interpreter. Third, sign language’s variation reached to cultural difference. Fourth, they experienced some dilemmas to do either their official work or deaf’s personal work. Fifth, they faced some difficulties of their role as a interpreter or social work professional. Sixth, they had ethical dilemmas between person information exposure and confidential duty. Lastly, they expected their social recognition as a professional. Based on these results, we would like to suggest following ideas. Above all, Practical conduct guideline of sign language interpreters need to be regulated. Second, case manager in the sign language interpreting center should be placed to coordinate and meet the deaf’s need. Next, significant code of ethics for sign language interpreter need to be enacted. Fourth, education system and support for sign language interpreter should be implemented to enhance their competence. Lastly, occupational role of sign language interpreter should be build up to overcome the gap between the deaf and them in terms of their role expectations.
