The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relations among positive emotion, flow, meaning of life
and happiness of university students. The participants in the study were 423 university students of the K
University in Daegu, South Korea. The instruments used were the Concise Measure of Subjective Well-Being Scale,
Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale, the Multi-dimensional Flow Scale, and the Meaning of Life Scale. The
collected data were analyzed using the structural equation model of the SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results
of the study were as follows. First, university students’ positive emotion and meaning of life had a direct impact
on happiness, but flow did not have a direct impact upon happiness. Second, positive emotions of university
students did not affect happiness through flow, but influenced happiness indirectly meaning of life. Third; it
showed that flow would have an indirect effect on happiness through the meaning of life. Fourth, positive
emotions were found to affect happiness through flow and meaning of life. The results of the study showed that
positive emotion would be the most important variable among the three variables, thet is positive emotions, flow,
and meaning of life, for university students’ happiness. This suggests that facilitating positive emotions of university
students should go first to enhance their happiness.
