The TOBU Method was developed jointly by the staff training section of TOBU
Department Store and Katsumi Tokuda’s Study in Tsukuba U niversity. According to
the contents, this method is divided into two; TOBU Method I and TOBU Method n .
TOBU Method I was developed in 1993 and is an experience ' style training using
simulation.
This method has more than ten thousand records of performance as of July 2008.
TOBU Method Ⅱ was completed in 2007 and is an experience-style training of how
receptionists assist people with disabilities.
Furthermore, this method is aimed at trainees who have completed method I.
Method Ⅱ has several hundred records of performance as of July 2008.
TOBU Method I has the following features;
1. This is a long-sustained training program in which trainees need about nine hours
to complete.
2. The content mainly uses simulation.
3. Trainees deepen their awareness of people with disabilities after the training.
4. The number of companies which have introduced this method is increasing.
TOBU Method n has the following features;
1. The skill of trainees' is raised when they assist people with disabilities.
2. Trainees learn about the situations of people who use wheelchairs, visually
handicapped people , people with hearing difficulties and people who use
guide dogs.
3. Many of the trainees state their impressions such as; that after the training, they
learned to throw themselves into the service for people with disabilities
enthusiastically and confidently.
