As the number of problems that should be resolved based on convergence knowledge and thinking is increased
in the 21st century, the importance of STEAM is emphasized. However, studies on STEAM are limited
to elementary/secondary schools, so there are few convergence-based discussions and preliminary
studies on effects of STEAM on infants. Therefore, this study attempted to design STEAM-based environmental
art education program consisting of circumstantiation, creative design and emotional experience
learning and then examine whether the program has some effects on infants' creative drawing expression
abilities and eco-friendly attitudes. In the process of this study, it could be found that infants recognized
problematic situations of local environments and understood that the earth is a valuable place in which nature,
human beings and ecosystem co-exist together, through observations of situations, analogical inference,
imagination and their empathy. Also, exploration of various materials and expressions of their
thoughts, in design and fabrication were found to have positive effects on the development of infants' creative
drawing expression abilities. It could be concluded that this corresponded to STEAM's ultimate goal
to let educational subjects give creative and new thoughts.
