The purpose of this study is to investigate changes to dental hygiene students' learning achievements
through the application of the capstone design to a class on oral health education. A survey was conducted
with 133 students who completed the capstone design course (oral health education) between 2013 and
2016. The results are discussed below. Participants’ satisfaction with the instruction process of the capstone
design class was 3.95±0.50 points, satisfaction with the instruction method was 3.99±0.51 points, and
satisfaction with the learning achievement was 3.70±0.67 points. In particular, among all of the learning
satisfaction items, satisfaction with an improvement in understanding information related to the subject
major and satisfaction with improvements to communication skills were found to be high. The application
of the capstone design program to the oral health education class will improve the students’
problem-solving abilities, enhance their communication skills, and ensure practical competence as oral health educators, thereby improving their learning outcomes.
