One of representative features in the translation of a self-help book is that it shows a tendency to focus on highly readable rendition. The high readability can be achieved by using translation shifts of addition, omission and replacement of the Source Text contents in the Target Text. The phenomenon seems to come from its possible association with sales of the translated text, which is arguably the main concern of its publisher.[1] In the process of rendering such a translation, however, misjudgment of which part to make a translation shift may lead to an unintended translation error. In this paper, an investigation will be made into a part of the published translation of the English Book Your Best Life Now to showcase some possible reasons for the aforementioned kind of a translation error. The theoretical framework for this paper is cohesion and its devices as explained in Systemic Functional Linguistics.[2] The result of the investigation offers that the translation lacks part of links to their cohesive networks, causing readability issues and possible translation errors.
