The purpose of this study is to develop an orientation program that supports Korean future
elementary teachers to perform their teaching practicum in American elementary schools
effectively. In order for this, the study analyzed orientation topics of four American universities
and one consortium(COST) that provide handbook for overseas student teachers. The topics
construct of twenty-seven items. The items were sent four experts with having experiences in
dealing with overseas student teachers and thirty-six college students having teaching practice
experience in America. They selected ten most important topics and to suggested additional
topics optimized to future applicants. Based on their responses, top ten subjects were selected.
They were documents for departure, roles and responsibilities of the officials, information on the
foreign country, things to do during the visit, host family, information on the host family,
emergency response, documents required when applying, activities to develop their
professionalism, etc.. Students mostly wanted to know in detail about the topics stated above.
In contrast, experts seems to emphasize safety and activities to enhance professionalism for the
pre-teachers. There are few related research because teaching practicum in America has a
relatively shorter history than domestic teaching practice. In particular, this research has its
significance in that it develops a program of the orientation for participants of foreign country
student teaching that is yet in an initial stage.
