So far, previous literature has presented the need of developing an IEP model which is practicable in Korean education situation. This study attempted to suggest some important IEP processes, contents, and document forms after analyzing the tasks and challenges that presented by special education researchers and the current special education law statements related to IEP. IEP documents must consider and include appropriate procedures, document forms, and key contents, considering the original purpose of IEP, which is to provide free and appropriate public education, and the current national curriculum system in Korea. Also, IEP in Korea must aims to provide necessary supports to students with disabilities for involvement and progress in school curriculum. Meanwhile, IEP related policies, theories, and practices in Korea should proceed to the direction that a detailed education plan for a student with disabilities is dealt with in the process of individualizing school curriculum for that student.
