There are many problems in the process of coexistence of people from various cultures in Korea society.
In the past, society and economic difficulties to adapt to Korean society have been more complicated
recently, along with psychological problem. As a result, psychological and emotional support for multicultural
families has expanded in the counseling domain, and the scope of the subject has expanded,
The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception change of art therapists through action research
to see how art therapists encounter culturally different clients in multicultural counseling and how multicultural
sensitivity changes and grows. The results of this study are three-fold. First, the research participants
focused on the client’s background of ‘multiculturalism’ and faced a challenge in reading the
client's verbal and non - verbal messages which pointed to insufficient cultural competence on the end
of research participants. Second, in many 'names' of multicultural clients, research participants recognized
the complexity of the client's identity and became culturally sensitive. Third, through art therapy,
the client recognized her strengths about 'language'. However, since the research participants realized
that they overlooked it, they clearly recognized the importance of multicultural counseling.
