The purpose of this study is to examine the influences of women's social action on the social welfare for women and their meaning for it. The study begins with an analysis and discussion of the Korean historical background divided 5 periods from 1945 to 1990's and the relationship between women's social action and social welfare for women; their issues and characteristics. Compared with the general level of Korean social welfare, women's welfare is much more developed thanks to women's social action even the global neo-liberal circumstances. The women's social action based women's studies, one side, and feminist's participation, the other side, has accelerated making various social policies related women issues. A finding of this study is that the women's social action is inevitably important for the development of social welfare for women. Moreover it is necessary to have interdisciplinary approaches for developing of specific areas, such as welfare for children, aging people and families. Social movement and action foster developing welfare policies from conformable and accommodative forms to innovative and reformative types.
