이 논문은 기술적 수단을 통한 인간 능력 향상이 행복을 위한 수단이 될 수 있는지를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기술적 수단을 통한 인간 향상이 행복 에 기여할지는 먼저 행복을 무엇으로 이해하는가에 달려 있다. 쾌락과 고통의 균형 혹은 삶의 만족이라는 주관적 관점에서 행복을 이해하는지, 아니면 인간 특유의 기 능의 발휘나 인간 능력의 완전성과 관련된 것으로 이해하는지에 따라 인간 향상이 행복에 영향을 미칠 수도 있고 그렇지 않을 수도 있다. 또한 인간의 능력 가운데 어떤 영역을 향상시키는지도 중요하다. 이 논문에서는 정서와 덕성과 관련하여 기 술적 향상이 행복의 증진에 기여하는지를 논의해 보았다. 그리고 기술적 수단의 적 용 대상이 자기 자신일 때와 타인일 때를 나누어 살펴보았다. 그런데 행복에 영향 을 미치는 요인들이 매우 다양하고 또 복잡하게 연관되어 있다. 기술적 수단이 아 무리 발전하고 인간에 대한 과학적 이해 수준이 아무리 높아진다고 할지라도 우리 가 행복에 대한 완전한 제어 능력을 가질 수 있을지는 의문이다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine whether human enhancement through technical means can be a means for happiness. Whether human enhancement through technical means contributes to happiness depends first on what we understand happiness. Human enhancement may or may not affect happiness, depending on whether you understand happiness from a subjective point of view, such as balance of pleasure and pain or satisfaction of life, or whether it is perceived to be related to the performance of a human-specific function or the completeness of human abilities. It is also important to improve which area of the human ability. In this paper, we discussed whether technical improvements contribute to the promotion of happiness in relation to emotion and virtue. And I looked at when the technical means was applied to me and to someone else. However, factors affecting happiness are very diverse and complex. No matter how advanced the technical means and the higher the level of scientific understanding of humans, we wonder if we can have complete control over happiness.
