The purpose of this study was to improve the level of fundamental nursing and practice course.
Participants were 36 nursing students who took the fundamental nursing practice course (September ~
December in 2015) in H university. Data were collected through survey in the pre and post-test to which
learning portfolio was applied. The study included 4 steps which are planning, action, observation, and
reflection. The course was planned with a 12-stage design model and carried out with the learning portfolio
in the actual curriculum. The students’ scores were improved in the stage of observation, and the levels of
self-efficacy and academic satisfaction were significantly high. Moreover, it was shown that consistent effort
of teaching-learning methods is necessary in the stage of reflection. The results indicate that course
improvement through learning portfolio increases academic achievement, self-efficacy, and course satisfaction.
Therefore, based on this results, it is suggested that future research compare and analyze plans to utilize learning portfolio and its effects of course improvement.
