The purpose of this study was to investigate how ‘STS science class’ linked with
vocation effects on science knowledge, career attitude and science education attitude
of college with developmental disabilities(DD). 33 students with DD, 2nd grade 24 and
3rd grade 9 in N university, in exploring vocation class, participated in this study
which include surveys and interviews. This study was one-group pretest-posttest
design. A descriptive statistics and t-test approaches were used to investigate the
general information and the difference between the pretest and posttest. It was
employed to analyze correlation between career attitude and science education attitude
by SPSS(VER.20) and Interviews by constant comparative method.
The finding of this study is as follows. First, scientific knowledge achievement of
students with DD was improved. Second, students with DD show better awareness
about career attitude and scientific education attitudes. Third, the correlation between
career attitude and scientific education attitude was also statistically significant.
Finally, although scientific knowledges required cognitive competences, this study
show that science education on STS class-model linked with vocation can improve
achievements of students with DD on scientific knowledge. These findings further
suggest that functional educational curriculum linked with real life like STS model
should be more invigorated on educations of college students with DD.
