This study aims to change the couple’s life to a positive direction for a couple who suffers from
conflicts because of verbal violence, through art therapy. Research participants were a married couple,
referred to a partner of a support center for crime victims located in A. city. As a qualitative research
method, the narrative inquiry methodology proposed by Clandinin & Connelly(2000) was used, and a
10-session art therapy was conducted once a week for 90min from March 22 through May 31, 2016. The
results of this study are summarized as follows: First, husband Young-ho Ahn(False name) got rid of the
emotions that suppressed him, expressing negative emotions and realized that there was a wish
for‘communication toward the world’ accompanied by ‘loneliness’ inside of the negative anger, too. Through
the experience of art therapy, he re-experienced his life, safely and appropriately, and through the
experience, he came to solve his problems and have a positive goal that he would like to make a happy
family. Second, wife Eun-mi Lee(False name) understood and forgave her husband, by re-experiencing hurt
and sadness safely. Approaching her personal need for achieving self-fulfillment and a concrete wish to
make a happy family, she overcame the fear for the future, as well.
