The purpose of this study was to learn about and explore the effects of voluntary art work in art
therapy upon the psychological exhaustion of temporary women workers in their 30s. To this end, we have
performed 12 voluntary art works from June 29, 2015 through August 25, 2015, with temporary women
worker participants in their early 30s. We have analyzed the effects of the psychological exhaustion by
analyzing the transcripts of the art therapy sessions collected in this process, the end products of the
artwork, and the visual journals prepared by the participants following each session. In addition, the
psychological exhaustion test and the dynamic work place life test were performed before and after the
process. The participants endeavored tore solve the psychological exhaustion by exploring the themes of
“light and darkness, path, and self-portrait” through the phases of preparation, hatching, lighting, and
verification within the bounds of the voluntary art work, while re-recognizing and accepting their own
problems and identifying their own portraits. In that process, the non-instructional attitude of the
researchers accepting and supporting the voluntary art works of the participants helped to alleviate the
psychological exhaustion by assisting the participants in breaking away from their psychological isolation
and to form new relationships.
