This study proposes the creativity competency model for undergraduate students in science or
engineering fields, by the proceeding research on competency factors which repel the creative outputs of
well-established scientists in Korea. This paper consists of competency modeling for the key behaviors
required for creative and excellent performance in the view points of global standard, competency
modeling for undergraduate students in science or engineering fields and its reliability-validity. At first,
based on structured face-to-face interviews of 12 creative scientists in Korea who well-recognized in their
fields world widely, we successfully constructed competency model for the key behaviors required for
creative scientist, called ‘scientist creativity competency model’. Secondly, the model which called
‘creativity competency model of the undergraduates in science or engineering(1st)’ was converted into 4
categories with 31 potential competency factors and used for structured tools for Delphi survey for
developing ‘creativity competency model for the undergraduates. The Delphi survey had performed twice
with 20 panels who were actively involved in education of undergraduate of S and K Universities. In the
second survey, when the structured survey was updated based on conformance with the ‘creativity
competency model of the undergraduates in science or engineering(final)’. Finally, the proposed competency
model has been validated through Focus Group Interview with 20 faculties and staffs who were involved
in admissions, educations and career guidance in S and K Universities.
