The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of children’s gratitude disposition and self-encouragement on
their school-happiness. To collect the data, a questionnaire about gratitude disposition, self-encouragement and
school-happiness was administrated. The participants were 373 of 5th and 6th graders from elementary schools
located in Jeonju. Correlation analysis was performed in order to examine the relationships among variables, and
multiple regression analysis was conducted to analyze the data. The main findings of this study were as follows.
First, Self-encouragement and gratitude disposition have a positive relation with school happiness. Especially,
cognitive self-encouragement showed the highest correlation with school happiness among several sub factors of
self-encouragement. Gratitude recognition and acception also exhibited the highest correlation with school
happiness among the sub factors of gratitude disposition, In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need for
enhancing positive characteristics of school-aged children by utilization of gratitude disposition and
self-encouragement.
