The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of job preference between elementary 5th
grader students and parents. For this purpose, we conducted preliminary research and main research on
elementary 5th grader students and parents of three elementary schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. In
preliminary research, 460 open-ended questionnaires(students:266, parents:194) were analyzed except not
submitted and insincere cases. And in main research, 477 5-point Likert scale questionnaires(students:255,
parents:222) were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: First, students showed higher preference of entertainer and athlete than parents. But parents showed higher preference of doctor and the
legal profession than students. In the job preference according to gender, there were statistically significant
differences in the preference of entertainer and athlete between boys and girls. Second, in the preference
about job characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in compensation and working
characteristics between students and parents. And there was statistically significant difference only in
compensation according to gender in students. But there was no significant difference according to gender
in parents.
