The aims of this study was to examine the moderating effect of depression on association family
support and health-related quality of life(HRQoL). A total of 250 pregnant women in D city, S. Korea
completed questionnaires assessing family support, depression, and HRQoL from August to October in 2016.
The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 and SPSS PROCESS Macro. Pearson
correlation coefficient was used to identify the relationships among family support, depression, and HRQoL
The relationship between family support and HRQoL was examined with multiple regression analysis. The moderating effect of depression on association family support and HRQoL was examined using conditional
effect. Findings lent support to the notion that family support was associated with HRQoL in pregnant
women. However, finding show that this effect was significantly lower among individuals reporting higher
symptoms of depressed mood. Implications from this study highlight that the moderating effect of
depression should be considered when developing intervention strategies to raise HRQoL in pregnant
women.
