The purpose of this study was to develop a stroke prevention program for the community dwelling
elderly and to determine the degree of cure due to physical factors (hypertension, diabetes, pain),
psychological factors such as Hwabyung, Level of Yangseng, and to identify the effects of the program.
From April to May of 2015, the community dwelling elderly in the two regions were provided routine
care to the control group and 23 experimental group were provided with 8 weeks of stroke prevention
program and their physical and psychological factors were measured. Statistical analysis was performed
using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program with descriptive statistics and T-test, ANCOVA. In the experimental group receiving the stroke prevention program, the blood pressure was decreased in the physical factors than the
control group, but the difference was not significant. There was a significant difference in blood glucose (t
= 3.56, p = .002) and pain (t = 3.14, p = .005). Also a significant difference between psychological
factors on Hwabyung(F = 4.24, p = .046) and level of Yangseng(F = 5.58, p = .022). Therefore, it can
be confirmed that the stroke prevention program for the elderly is effective. As a result, it is necessary to
activate the stroke prevention program to reduce the complication by further expanding the prevention
education for the reduction of the stroke of the community dwelling elderly.
