This paper explores how to use the SNS by Vietnamese students for their acculturation. For this
purpose, I observed the activities of the Vietnamese student community in SNS for 6 months. Among the
foreign students who were observed, 5 Vietnamese students who were members of the self - help group
and who lived in Korea for 9 months or more were selected as research participants. They were
interviewed and the interview data thus collected were analyzed to fulfill the above objectives. Findings are
as follows. Foreign students were using SNS for Korean language learning, Vietnam foreign student
community contact, virtual contact with family members in their home countries, small talk for expanding
relationship, identity ventilation, notification of home culture, and expression of national identity. Based on
these results, it will be necessary to deepen research on the transnational activity and acculturation of
foreign students using SNS.
