The purpose of this study is to analyze the vocabulary of korean lan-guage textbook for the deaf to design language instruction effectively at 5th and 6th grade. Total 20,541 running words was analyzed depending on frequency, a part of word, grammatical particle, and domain of meaning.
The 5th grade had 7,783 running words and 1,721 different words and the 6th grade had 10,102 runing vvords and 2,802 different words. the highest frequency words were 'hada', 'itta', 'mal', 'wuri' et c. In word class distri- bution, noun appeared 60% and more, next ranked verb, adjective, adverb orderly. Single words were twice more than sum of composed words and derivative words. There was not a consistent basis to select vocabularies in analysis by domain of meaning. Because selecting words was depending on the topic of story, many words were out of fashion and some words were excessively moral.
In the future, when we develop korean language textbook and design language instruction plan for the students with hearing impairment, the basis of selecting vocabulary have to be considered thoughtfully as well as content and syntax.
