The purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of after-school education activity in Korea at chonnam area for children with disorders and the needs of their parents for the education activity. The purpose of this study intended to provide the basis of advanced after-school education activity for the children disorders.
100 parents of children with disorders were participated in this study, whose children attended a special schools for children with disorders. To collect data of the study, questionnaire was used, which consisted of questions about the current situation of after-school education activity for children with disorders.
The result, with the respect of the current situation of after-school education activity, showed the followings.
First, The most of children of elementary school students participating after-school education activity, the middle school students and high school students did not participate any after-school education activity and stayed alone.
Second, The most of the children who were receiving the after-school education were participating in welfare center, so we have to be concerned about welfare center of program.
Third, The most of children of receiving after-school education activity got a separated education, Therefore, they had insufficient opportunities to receive an integrated education.
In sum, for activating and advancing after-school education activity for children with disorders, the followings are required : appropriate environmental structures, improved programs based on their developmental characteristics, and attempt at realizing complete mainstream and needed financial supports by the governments.
