2000년 이후 한국사회에는 웰빙 열풍이 불고 있다. 새로운 문화트렌드로서 웰빙은 한국인들의 소비행태를 파악할 수 있는 핵심적 지위를 차지한다. 의․식․주에 관련된 소비시장에서 웰빙을 표방하는 상품들은 크게 인기를 누리고 있으며, 신체적, 정신적 건강을 위한 여러 활동들도 웰빙추구의 방식으로 이해되고 있다. 이러한 높은 사회적 관심은, 웰빙 관련 많은 저술들을 단기간 내에 쏟아내었다. 사회과학의 여러 학문 분과에서도 다양한 측면에서 웰빙관련 논의를 전개하고 있으며, 체계적이고 분석적인 글들도 점차 많아지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 2006년 현재 웰빙관련 연구는 개인들의 심리 수준과 사회구조적 수준에서 깊게 전개되지 못하고, 한국사회의 웰빙열풍에 대한 묘사와 일부 사회집단에 대한 연구차원에서 머무르는 실정이다. 이 논문은 웰빙 담론의 현주소를 진단하고, 향후 어떠한 쟁점들이 부각될 것인지에 대한 예측과 어떤 논의로 발전되어야 하는지에 대한 규범적 해석을 시도한다.
The Korean society has been smashed by the well-being syndrome since 2000. Well-being as new cultural trend takes a key position by which Koreans\' the consuming patterns can be identified. The goods announced as well-being in the most cases hit good sellings in the market on food ․ clothing ․ housing, the activities for physical and mental health are understood as the attitude for the well-being pursuit. These high social interests in well-being pour down numerous books on well-being in the short term. Many disciplines in the social sciences also promote the research on well-being in the several perspectives and gradually increasing are academic works systematic and analytic in this flow. However, the current research on well-being has not deeply investigated into the social structures as well as the individuals\' psychological level. It just remains on description or as a sketch of the social syndrome of well-being pursuit. By the way, the object groups for research are limited. This paper aims at identifying the current status quo of the well-being syndrome in the Korean society and the well-being discourse, producing a normative interpretation for further development of the discourse on the basis of more or less a proper estimation of possible coming issues on well-being.
