This study aims at analysing the influence of the elderly’s leisure activities on their life satisfaction and finding out its implications for social welfare in the aging society. As a result of the analysis, first educational background, age and marital status were found as the demographic and sociological factors which affect the elderly’s life satisfaction. Second, as influence of the elderly’s health and economic status on their leisure activities, their physical health was affecting their satisfaction in the activities, and the economic status showed no influence according to this study.
Third, as influential factors on the elder’s life satisfaction, their satisfaction in leisure activities showed influential, and their physical health showed influence when analysing to the exclusion of the satisfaction in leisure activities, while when including the satisfaction in leisure activities, the physical health was found to influence on their overall life satisfaction through leisure activities rather than to affect that directly.
Though putting the results together, the study suggests that proper leisure activities should be needed for the elderly’s vital and satisfied life according to the aging society, and the necessity of places for leisure activities which the elderly can use with convenience and diverse programs for leisure culture as well as development of relevant policies.
