In order to assess trends in family therapy research, the author examined 921 empirical articles from five primary journals (AJFT, CFT, JFT, JMFT, and KJFT) over a 6-year period (2000 through 2005), coding them for several themes, including therapeutic model/theory, clinical case study, methodology, family therapy practice, training/education, family diversity, and differences between nations. Results indicate that a large percentage of the articles in these journals focused on the practice of the family therapist, clinical case study, and use of therapeutic model/theory. Few articles addressed methodological issues or the differences between nations, and in contrast to English-language journals, almost no Korean-language journals included published studies on family therapy practice. Implications of these results are discussed, and recommendations are made for future research articles in Korean-language journals.
