본 연구는 선행연구들에서 지연행동과 학업성취도의 관계에서 서로 불일치한 결과가 지연행동에 대한 통일되지 않은 정의에 기인한 것으로 가정하고 지연행동의 유형에 따른 학업성취도와의 관계를 밝혔다. 지연행동의 유형에는 실제 의도지연, 실제 행동지연, 의도와 행동 간의 불일치 지연, 다른 활동 선호 지연이 있다. 대학생 230명에게 자기보고식 설문에 답하게 한 결과, 첫째, 만성적인 지연행동은 학업성취도와 부적 상관관계를 가진다. 둘째, 실제 의도지연과 의도와 행동 간의 불일치 지연은 출석점수, 기말고사점수, 성적 총점과 모두 유의미한 상관관계를 가지지 않았다. 그러나 실제 행동지연은 기말고사 점수와 유의미한 부적 상관관계를 보였고 다른 활동 선호 지연은 기말고사 점수와 성적 총점과 유의미한 부적 상관관계를 보였다. 따라서 지연행동을 실제 행동지연 또는 다른 활동 선호 지연으로 정의하였을 경우, 지연행동과 학업성취도의 관계는 부적인 상관관계를 가진다. 반면, 지연행동을 실제 의도지연 또는 의도와 행동 간의 불일치 지연으로 정의하였을 경우, 지연행동과 학업성취도의 관계는 유의미하지 않다.
This study investigated the relation between academic achievement and academic procrastination. academic procrastination was inferred from four behavioral manifestations: (1) lack of promptness in intention; (2) lack of promptness in behavior; (3) intention-behavior discrepancy; and (4) preference for competing activities. 230 college students completed self-report questionnaires involving procrastination(API). The results of this study can be summarized as follows: Chronic procrastination was significantly related to lack of promptness in behavior and preference for competing activities. And chronic procrastination was negatively related to attendance and course grade. Lack of promptness in intention and intention-behavior discrepancy was not significantly related to attendance, a score on final exam, and course grade. Lack of promptness in behavior was negatively related to a score on final exam. Preference for competing activities was negatively related to a score on final exam and course grade.
