이 연구는 자일로폰 악기연주 활동이 정신지체 청소년의 주의집중력 향상에 효과가 있는지를 알아 본 것이었다. 연구의 대상은 서울에 소재한 E특수학교에 재학 중인 중학교 1, 2, 3학년 학생 중 주의집중에 문제를 나타내는 정신지체 청소년 36(남24, 여12)명이었다. 연구는 이들을 실험집단 18명(남12, 여6), 통제집단 18명(남12, 여6)으로 무선 배치한 후, 실험집단은 총 15회에 걸친 자일로폰 악기연주 활동을 통제집단은 같은 회기 동안 자유놀이와 같은 일상적인 활동을 가졌다. 연구 결과, 자일로폰 악기연주 활동은 정신지체 청소년의 주의집중력 능력 치수(P), 품질 치수(Q), 지속성 치수(C)에 유의미한 차이를 보였었다. 따라서 이 연구는 악기연주 활동이 정신지체 청소년의 주의집중력에 향상을 주는 결과로서 향후 학습능력을 위한 기본적인 전제가 될 수 있을 것이다.
This study aims to clarify the effect of xylophone playing for the musical activity on the improvement of attention & concentration skills mentally retarded adolescents. The subjects of this study were thirty-six mentally retarded adolescents (24 male, 12 female) who had suffered from the difficulty in attention & concentration among 1st to 3rd graders at a special middle school in Seoul. They were randomly grouped into experimental group composed of eighteen subjects (12 male, 6 female) and control group composed of the same number of subjects (12 male, 6 female). Experimental group played the xylophone 15 times in total, while control group participated in daily activities such as free play during the same session. In result, it was shown that playing the xylophone had a significantly positive effect on attention & concentration performance index (P), quality index (Q) and continuance index (C) among mentally retarded adolescents. In conclusion, it is considered that the xylophone playing learning activity improves the attention & concentration of mentally retarded adolescents which is one of prior conditions required to develop their learning ability.
