The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of a cognitive-behavioral program on depression, dysfunctional attitudes, and self-esteem of girl students in a high school. The program was developed on the basis of Kevin Stark\'s program and Dennis Greenberger and Christine A. Padesky\'s program. Subjects of the study were 20 girl students in a high school of Kyungnam Province. The 20 students were divided into two groups: 10 girls into the experimental group and the other 10 girls into the control group. The experimental group participated in the 8-session program. Each session was conducted for 80 minutes. The control group received no treatment at all during this period.
The program was led by present investigator and an assistant leader with master\'s degree in counseling psychology.
The effects of the program were assessed by pre- and post-test of depression, dysfunctional attitudes, and self-esteem.
In addition, a follow-up test was administered five weeks later. The collected data were analysed using ANCOVA and t-tests. The results of the study were as follows. The cognitive-behavioral group counseling program was effective in reducing depression and dysfunctional attitudes and in increasing self-esteem of the high school girls.
