The purpose of the present study was to analyze sets of English teaching materials for listening developed for the seventh national curriculum and used in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary schools. The materials included students\'s textbooks, teacher\'s guides, and CD-Rom titles. The analysis revealed that the materials included several problems, although they were more convenient and favorable to the teachers compared to the English listening materials for the sixth national curriculum. It was most frequently pointed out that the current materials should provide the varied types of listening activities with the adequate guidance and the supplementary materials for the teacher to reduce the heavy preparation load in implementing the seventh level-based national curriculum. The theoretical background of listening is described in terms of the variety of listening activities intended for effective English proficiency. Accordingly the types of listening activities are suggested available for the elementary school English. The ministry of education or the board of education of each city should prepare lots of listening materials attached to the English textbooks.
