Rapid increase of divorce rate has been one of the major changes in Korean society. However, the impact of parental divorce on children has not been studied enough in Korea. Moreover, Korean perspectives on the impact of parental divorce are mostly negative. In western countries with longer histories of divorce, two major perspectives on the impact of parental divorce on children prevail: One view assumes that divorce almost inevitably leads to behavioral and psychological symptoms among children; the other maintains that divorce be a family crisis or challenge that may actually have growth-producing potential. This study reviews he two major perspectives on divorce and its impact on children, and contemplates their implication on the education of children of divorce.
