This paper highlights the importance of the leisure industry and examines the sources of competitiveness of a leisure city through case analysis of some successful leisure cities. The foreign cases selected for investigation in this paper include Las Vegas, Orlando, and Hollywood in the United States, Davos in Switzerland, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and Vancouver in Canada. From these case studies, we have found four important sources of leisure cities’ competitiveness: (1) created assets, (2) international scope, (3) networked clustering, and (4) proactive policies. Suggestions are then given to the Chuncheon government in formulating appropriate strategies for enhancing the city as a world-class competitive leisure place.
