As the standards of teacher's compulsory on the job training(OJT) get intensified, so the demand
on the distance teacher training program is expected to be increased, and various qualified distance programs to be needed. So a study to investigate the teachers' need about distance training programs, and to analyze the group difference of their needs by teachers' background is needed. This study aims to analyze the teachers' needs for distance teacher training programs and to give some implications for development and implementation of it. For this, we made a questionnaire composed of teachers' background variables(sex, age, teaching career, working school, academic career, working place, level of working place, subject), their prior training experiences, and their preferences about distance training programs. And we distributed 2,000 questionnaires to graduate school students of J University and their colleagues at work, and withdrew 1,743(87,2%)of them. And then, we analyzed descriptive statistics and difference among groups according to their background by SPSS for windows 12.0.
The survey results are as follows. Teachers have usually participated in training program for one
time per one year, and they perceived that the shortage of interaction in class is the most important problem in distance teacher training programs. And as curriculum, they preferred followings in the order: student counseling, effective teaching method, learning material design and development, and an aspect of learning time, 60 hours(4 credits) were preferred, as contents type, flash animation, self-learning, lecture by two experts of the field were preferred. On the basis of the result findings, we gave three suggestions on the development and implementation of distance teacher training program according to teachers' background.
