This research examines the experiences of Korean Focusing Experiential
Art (KFEA) program. Qualitative analysis of Focus group interview is
performed on counselors who attended 6-hour KFEA program. Based on the
results, 3 themes and 10 categories are retrieved. The first theme is named
as “Internal Experience of uniqueness of Korean Art material & Technique”
which is associated with 3 following categories: 1) Internal Change due to
the characteristics of Korean material, 2) Uniqueness of Korean Art material
& technique, 3) Foundation of internal resources to endure uncomfortableness.
The second theme is called as “The characteristics of KFEA” and the following
4 categories are related: Category 1) Clearing Space, 2) The possibility of
quicker involvement, 3) Relationship with Felt Sense, 4) Able to discover
self-awareness & internal potential. The third them is named as ”Benefit as
a counselor“ and 3 following categories are related: 1) Increase of openness
for diverse experiences, 2) Understanding the need for prevention of
burn-out, 3) Aid the development of professionalism. Based on the results of
the analysis, the effectiveness of the KFEA program is examined. Also,
suggestions are provided for the development of the program and its
applications.
