As the quality enhancement of ECEC became an important agenda in Korea, the quality support system of 'consulting' has emerged as one of the key policy issues to establish. Korean ECEC consulting has been implemented in dual polars of early childhood education and care with quite different consulting notions and history of development. As the Nuri curriculum for all 5-year-olds has launched, the new institution of universal supports and unified curriculum has changed the concept of consulting and emphasized the importance of ECEC consulting. Accordingly Nuri curriculum and supports also requires unified national consulting support system.
This article carefully reviewed the current status of ECEC consulting, both in the kindergarten and in the child care center as implemented in 2010-2012. The impending issues in consulting is how to provide the individually tailored quality consulting to the kindergarten and child care center in a balanced way, and how to develop the system for Nuri implementations. As research findings and conclusions, this study discussed how to approach and narrow the differences and gaps in consulting system between early education and child care, how to develop the universal ECEC consulting network, how to secure enough funding for consulting, and how to nurture the professional consultant workforce for Nuri implementations.
