This study aims to analyze the effect of fairy tale-used dialogical journal writing and
large-group discussion on young children's written language expression.
As for research subjects, this study selected 46 young children and divided them into two
different groups, one group of 23 young children for dialogical journal writing and the other
group of 23 young children for large-group discussion.
As for research methods, this study carried out fairy tale-used dialogical journal writing activities
and large-group discussion activities respectively 10 times in total. Then, changes between the
pretest scores and the posttest scores were analyzed through t-test, based on Written Language
Expression Test Tool for 5-year-old Children developed by Lee, Ji-yeon (1999).
As a result of the analysis, this study found out that in consciousness-oriented sentences out of
all the subordinate elements of written language expression, dialogical journal writing was more
effective than large-group discussion, but in action-oriented sentences and illogical sentences,
there was no significant difference found between them.
Accordingly, dialogical journal writing can be an effective language teaching method in
improving young children's written language expression. However, if this method is combined
with large-group discussion, it is expected that this combined teaching method will be used as a
much more effective language teaching method in the field of kindergarten.
