The purpose of this study was to investigate styles of the practicum supervisor that
are preferred by students under the field apprenticeship of social welfare practice. For
this purpose, this researcher conducted a study of a focus group which consisted of 14
student apprentices who experienced field practices in terms of social welfare. In the
survey, this researcher largely classified those students' preferred style of the practicum
supervisor into positive and responsive styles, which were originally suggested by
Munsun. Then the researcher reclassified the two styles into some sub-styles like
philosopher, technician and theorist styles.
Based on these findings, this study made practical suggestions that are expected to
facilitate positive relationships between the practicum supervisor and the student
apprentice in the field of social welfare practice and improve the apprentice's satisfaction
about supervision in that field.
