This study is to find out the effects of parents\' educational attainment, IQ, and high school educational experiences on later educational attainment and socioeconomic achievement for a class of a selective malehigh school graduates in a capital city of a local province. The subjects had graduated the high school in 1971 and have been followed up by questionnaire in 22 years since graduation. Although the sample is restricted to a small group this study has a merit of extending the basic model on status attainment initiated by Blau and Duncan(1967) by adding up some better measures on high school educational experiences, terminal educational attainment, and occupational achievement. The high school educational experiences includes mea-sures on academic achievement and behavioral attitudes which were obtained from the high school records. The measures on the terminal educational attainment were divided into two: the quantitative educational attainment as the years of schooling and the qualitative measure of the prestige of terminal educational institution. The measure of occupational status was obtained from a questionnaire based on the respondents\' evaluation of occupational hierarchy in terms of socioeconomic status and political power. The multiple regression analysis was employed to find out the effect estimates of deter-minants on high school achievement and behavioral attitudes, terminal educational attainment, occupational achievement, and income. The results are as follows: 1. The parents\' educational attainment had little effect on son\'s high school achievement and behavioral attitudes, post-high school educational attainment, occupational achievement, and income. 2. The IQ had a small effect on high school achievement, terminal educational attainment, and occupational achievement. 3.The academic achievement in high school had a considerable effect on terminal educational attainment (particularly the hirarchical level of the terminal educational institution), occupational achievement largely via the hierarchical level of the terminal educational insti-tution, and on income partly via terminal educational attainment and occupational achievement. 4.The behavioral attitudes in high school had a sizable effect on terminal educational attainment, and occupational achievement largely via terminal educational attainment. 5. The terminal educational attainment, particularly the hierarchical prestige of terminal educational institution, had a major effect on occupational status and income largely via occupational status. 6. The occuaptional status had a considerable effect on income. These results should be interpreted limitedly for a class of male high school graduates who have been followed up in about 22 years since graduation in 1971 in the surrounding social and historical context.
