In this paper, we gave a critical review on the previous studies and presented a new approach to the study on Schiller`s 『Aesthetic Education』. Historically, the study of education has lacked the independence from the partial views on education suggested by the outside disciplines. We considered the research on Schiller`s 『Aesthetic Education』as one of such examples and gave a critical review on the previous studies. Also we presented a new approach in the internal view of the study of education. The limitations of the previous studies can be listed as follows. First, they made emphasis on the value of the art as a means, rather than the internal value as was protected by Schiller. Second, they confused between the value of art and that of the education and proposed an art as an education, and an education as an art. Thirdly, they regarded the aesthetic man proposed by Schiller as an education and claimed that he proposed and justified the internal value of the education. We suggest the following implications of Schiller`s 『Aesthetic Education』on the study of education. We should learn his view and attitude on the art and beauty with which he first studied the autonomy of the art and beauty with emphasis on the internal value of them, and then went on to study several external values and functions. For establishment of the study of education as an autonomous discipline, we should first examine the internal values of education as the innate object of the study. Several external values and functions of the educations such as the relationship with the society can be clearly explained afterwards. By doing this, the study of education can find its standpoint as a autonomous discipline.
