The purpose of this study is to confirm the direction of transitions of the educational
paradigm in Japan in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In accordance with
the recent society5.0, that is being discussed in Japan, I'd like to clarify the meaningful
roles of education in which active learning is oriented. The results are as follows:
Firstly, educational activities are basically two aspects: the view of enlightenment of
quality and the securing of practical skills. Secondly, as education in the era of the
Industrial Revolution is based on technology determinism, it is easy to think that the
“education of industrial logic” is more powerful. However, we should also pay attention
to the “education of educational logic” which has a symbiotic viewpoint. Thirdly, active
learning, which has been attracting attention in Japan's higher education in recent years,
has expanded the paradigm of education from “teaching” to “learning,” and further to
“learning for human being.” In the end, such change of the educational paradigm
shows that educational activities should not lead to a mere industrial revolution, but
should lead the change in society.
