The purpose of this study was to overview the characteristics, the methodologies-case study, participant observation, interview, and ethnography-, and the process of analyzing data for qualitative research and illustrate some research examples in music education. Finally, a prospect for the future development and a desirable direction of qualitative research in music education in Korea are represented.
